While its posi\u00adtion on a nar\u00adrow grav\u00adel bank in a bend of the riv\u00ader pro\u00advid\u00aded some seclu\u00adsion, it did not pro\u00adtect the abbey from the rav\u00adages of war or allow it to pros\u00adper in peace.
