Com\u00adpared with oth\u00ader Baroque abbeys, the struc\u00adture appears more like a cas\u00adtle at first sight \u2013 until one pass\u00ades through the two entrance gate\u00adways and arrives in the irreg\u00adu\u00adlar\u00adly shaped court\u00adyard. It is only from the riv\u00ader itself that a true impres\u00adsion can be gained of the fine bal\u00adance Philipp Blank achieved in his over\u00adall plan for the monas\u00adtic com\u00adplex, for the spec\u00adtac\u00adu\u00adlar fa\u00e7ade of the monastery build\u00adings looks direct\u00adly onto the Danube. Blank tru\u00adly extract\u00aded an opti\u00admum from the topo\u00adgraph\u00adi\u00adcal, his\u00adtor\u00adi\u00adcal, and finan\u00adcial cir\u00adcum\u00adstances he encoun\u00adtered in 1714, when work began on the project. With its 45 m high tow\u00ader and the impos\u00ading drum of the dome, the abbey church forms a com\u00adpo\u00adsi\u00adtion\u00adal counter to the chapel on the Frauen\u00adberg. Meet\u00ading in an obtuse angle on the river\u00adbank, the two long, sym\u00admet\u00adri\u00adcal, triple-storey wings of the monastery express, in their clar\u00adi\u00adty and sim\u00adplic\u00adi\u00adty \u2013 but also in their func\u00adtion\u00adal divi\u00adsion \u2013 the dou\u00adble imper\u00ada\u00adtive of the Bene\u00addic\u00adtine rule: \u201cora et lab\u00ado\u00adra\u201d (pray and work). At the con\u00adver\u00adgence of the wings lies a nar\u00adrow entrance with a pal\u00ading gate (dat\u00aded 1736), above which an enclosed cor\u00adri\u00addor link\u00ading the two struc\u00adtures was lat\u00ader added. The elder Asam had prob\u00ada\u00adbly planned an arched por\u00adtal here, which would have been accessed by an open stair\u00adcase flanked by sculptures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The polyg\u00ado\u00adnal abbey court\u00adyard is closed off on the west\u00adern side (fac\u00ading the Danube) by the west wing, erect\u00aded by F. Beer. It for\u00admer\u00adly accom\u00admo\u00addat\u00aded the sta\u00adbles, oil mill, guest rooms, and abbey bailiff\u2019s apart\u00adments, and now hous\u00ades St. George\u2019s pas\u00adtoral cen\u00adtre and a abbey tav\u00adern. The land\u00adward gate\u00adway now hous\u00ades the recep\u00adtion of the guest house, and the brew\u00adery lies to the south. The nar\u00adrow court\u00adyard widens towards the east, where the church and monas\u00adtic build\u00adings lie, which in turn enclose a rec\u00adtan\u00adgu\u00adlar clois\u00adter gar\u00adden. On the side fac\u00ading the Danube, the north wing (built by Ph. Blank him\u00adself) hous\u00ades the admin\u00adis\u00adtra\u00adtion, kitchen and refec\u00adto\u00adry on the ground floor, the prelates\u2019 rooms on the first floor, and prince\u00adly quar\u00adters and recre\u00adation\u00adal rooms on the top floor. To the south of the com\u00adplex, the monas\u00adtic and eco\u00adnom\u00adic build\u00adings are con\u00adnect\u00aded by a curved retain\u00ading wall crowned by a balustrade. It is pierced by gate\u00adways lead\u00ading to the Frauen\u00adberg hill and the cliff-side cel\u00adlars.
