This office is cur\u00adrent\u00adly held by Thomas Maria Frei\u00adhart. He was born in 1960 as the eldest son of a farm\u00ading fam\u00adi\u00adly with eight chil\u00addren in Rait\u00aden\u00adbuch near Berch\u00ading. In 1980 Frei\u00adhart entered Plankstet\u00adten Abbey as a novice and made his per\u00adpet\u00adu\u00adal pro\u00adfes\u00adsion there in 1984 as a Bene\u00addic\u00adtine monk. He stud\u00adied the\u00adol\u00ado\u00adgy at the Catholic Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty of Eich\u00adst\u00e4tt and was ordained a priest in 1986. In 1988 he con\u00adtin\u00adued his stud\u00adies at the Bene\u00addic\u00adtine Col\u00adlege of San\u00adt\u2019Ansel\u00admo in Rome and grad\u00adu\u00adat\u00aded in 1991 with a degree from the Monas\u00adtic Insti\u00adtute. After his return from Rome, Father Thomas ran the guest house in Plankstet\u00adten Abbey; he was also novice mas\u00adter and pri\u00ador there from&nbsp;1993.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On Octo\u00adber 2, 1995, Thomas Maria Frei\u00adhart, who came from Plankstet\u00adten, was elect\u00aded Pri\u00ador Admin\u00adis\u00adtra\u00adtor, i.e. tem\u00adpo\u00adrary Supe\u00adri\u00ador of Wel\u00adtenburg Abbey, suc\u00adceed\u00ading Abbot Dr. Thomas Nig\u00adgl. On June 25, 1998, the con\u00advent elect\u00aded him the 70th abbot of the tra\u00addi\u00adtion\u00adal monastery. On Sep\u00adtem\u00adber 19 of the same year, Bish\u00adop Man\u00adfred M\u00fcller (Regens\u00adburg) per\u00adformed the solemn abbot con\u00adse\u00adcra\u00adtion at a pon\u00adtif\u00adi\u00adcal mass in the monastery church of St. George.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Abbot Thomas places his ser\u00advice under the mot\u00adto: \u201cCar\u00adi\u00adtatem non dere\u00adlin\u00adquere \u2014 don\u2019t give up on love\u201d. With this mot\u00adto from the 4th Chap\u00adter of the Rule of St. Bene\u00addict, the abbot refers to his cen\u00adtral task, name\u00adly to ensure that the love of Christ deter\u00admines liv\u00ading togeth\u00ader in the community.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The coat of arms of Abbot Thomas M. Since 1415, the red paw cross has stood for the patron saint of church and monastery, St. george Three ears of wheat indi\u00adcate that Thomas M. Frei\u00adhart came from a farm\u00ading fam\u00adi\u00adly; at the same time they sym\u00adbol\u00adize St. Eucharist, allud\u00ading to the abbot\u2019s mot\u00adto. The blue col\u00ador and the green triple moun\u00adtain are bor\u00adrowed from the coat of arms of his pro\u00adfessed monastery, Plankstet\u00adten Abbey. The square in the low\u00ader left cor\u00adner of the four-part shield is both an attribute of St. Joseph (bap\u00adtismal name) as well as St. Apos\u00adtle Thomas (reli\u00adgious name), the patron saint of the&nbsp;abbot.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">shield squared of sil\u00adver and blue; 1 and 3 a con\u00adtin\u00adu\u00adous red cross-pat\u00adtern; 2 three gold\u00aden ears of corn on a green three-moun\u00adtain; 4 an oblique gold\u00aden angle hook.
